(AsiaGameHub) – Georgia is set to strengthen its gambling regulations by implementing substantially steeper fines for breaches of licensing terms.
Pursuing this objective, the Georgian government has proposed changes to the law “On Arranging Lotteries, Gambling And Prize Games” that would impose much heavier penalties on all licensed operators in the country. For instance, fines for casinos would rise to 20,000 GEL (up from 7,000 GEL), while slot salon fines would increase to 10,000 GEL (up from 1,000 GEL). A comparable scheme of heightened fines for clubs, online platforms, and system operators is also being introduced.
The government stated:
Frequently, it is more financially advantageous for a licensee to break the rules and subsequently settle the fine than to adhere completely to all stipulated regulations.
Authorities have explained that the current penalty amounts are insufficient to prevent infractions, leading many operators to deliberately risk breaking the law and paying the fines rather than ensuring full compliance.
The proposed amendments, drafted by the Ministry of Finance, are scheduled for parliamentary review in the coming weeks.
